General

What is Parentography?
Parentography is a vibrant online community for parents who want honest advice, tools, tips and ideas for family excursions, whether they plan to travel across town or across the country!

Is Parentography free?
Yes. Members and guests can use all of our services for free.  We keep our doors open by charging merchants and other businesses to advertise on our site.

Why Use Parentography?
Parentography is a great resource for anyone who wants to make the time they spend with children more fun.  Reading honest advice from other parents and caregivers about places they’ve been and things they’ve done helps to save time and money.  Plus, as a registered Parentographer, you can store all of your reviews in one place and easily share that list with friends. It becomes your own family-friendly yellow pages.

Who should use Parentography?
Parentography is for parents and caregivers of children ranging from newborns to adolescents.  Our members are people just like you – parents, grandparents, caregivers and others who spend a lot of time with children and are looking for safe, creative and fun things to do together.  Parentography is great for finding and discovering new places in your own community, or finding valuable recommendations from other parents and caregivers when you’re planning a vacation.

What can I Review on Parentography?
Primarily, we encourage our members to contribute reviews and excursions related to the six categories we’ve developed: activities, kid services, restaurants, lodgings, major attractions, and parks and playgrounds.  But, really, we encourage you to contribute anything that might help other parents and caregivers improve the quality of the time they spend with their children.

Do I have to be a member to contribute information to Parentography?
Yes, to contribute a review or excursion, to comment and to take advantage of all of our features on Parentography, you must register and become a member.

If I post a review or excursion, who can see it?
Anyone visiting Parentography can see your reviews and excursions.  You will be identified by your username.  If you’d like to change your username, just visit your Account page and look under Settings.

What cities does Parentography serve?
Parentography allows members to post reviews and excursions about any location in the United States.  We don’t control which cities get reviews or which places are reviewed or written about – that’s entirely up to members!   If you’d like to see more coverage of the places in your area, or an area you’re planning to visit, invite your friends and family in those places to join Parentography and start contributing reviews and excursions.

How about locations outside of the United States?
We don’t offer any coverage outside of the United States right now.  It is definitely something we are interested in pursuing and hope to begin as soon as possible.  If you have reviews or excursion ideas for foreign locations, write them down and save them.  We’ll keep you posted about when we launch any new geographic locations!

What is an excursion?
Excursions, unlike reviews, which describe a single place, highlight activities that involve more than one place or that can be done anywhere. Excursions can showcase regular weekly outings, like grabbing breakfast at your favorite greasy spoon after your child’s swim class, or they can suggest longer trip ideas, like a week-long itinerary in the Hawaiian islands that someone else already tried and enjoyed. If you want information about just a single place, reviews are where you’ll want to start.

How do I invite friends?
Parentography gets better as more people use it, so we really hope that you will share the site with your friends, parenting and play groups, and colleagues.  You can refer someone to the site by clicking the button that says: Invite Now.  This will take you to a simple email form where you can enter addresses of the people you’d like to invite to browse the site and a personalized message from you.

If you’re a registered member, you can also add friends to your profile page.  Friends are Parentographers you already know or whose contributions you respect and want to follow.  To invite another member to be your friend, find that person’s Parentographer page and then look for the button that says Request as Friend.  This sends a message from you with a request to be your friend.  If the friend candidate accepts your invitation, your new friend will automatically be added to your friends list and to your Parentographer page in the friends’ area.

What are Sponsored Results?
Sponsored results are advertisements paid for by merchants.

Recognition Program

What are the badges I see next to some Parentographer’s profiles?
We believe strongly that our members should be recognized for their contributions to the community, so we created a recognition program.  The badges you see are different awards that members have earned.

How do I earn a badge?
We have a magic scoring system that we like to keep secret so that we don’t promote abuse or gaming from users. Parentography is about collaboration, not competition. All you need to know is that if you keep on contributing great stuff to Parentography, you will be rewarded accordingly. Think of it like getting that bonus present under the Christmas tree that you weren’t expecting from Santa. It's that much sweeter when you get a surprise.

What are the different badges?
We have three badges that Parentographers can earn.  The first is our Top 100 award, which is given to Parentographers who are ranked among the top 100 on the entire site!  It is pretty special and something that our members work hard to earn.  The ranking formula we use is secret (we don't want people to game the system in an effort to gain greater glory), but we like to reward good behavior that helps other parents and caregivers – contributing reviews and excursions, adding friends, etc.  The second badge is the P+ or Parentography Plus award, which is given to Parentographers who have received high ratings for their reviews, as indicated by other members frequently voting that their reviews are helpful.  The final badge is given based on the number of reviews and excursions that a Parentographer has contributed to the site.  The number inside the badge reflects different levels of achievement.

Reporting Inappropriate Content or Behavior

How do I report inappropriate content or behavior?
Parentography depends on its members’ respect for each other.  We have published guidelines for reviews and excursions and have detailed Terms and Conditions of Use that clarify what we deem to be appropriate behavior and conduct on the site.  If a report is made, by either clicking a link on the site or sending an email message to violation[at]parentography[dot]com, we will investigate the complaint and take appropriate action to ensure that Parentography remains a destination that is friendly and helpful for everyone.  This may result in expulsion of members from the community.

I’m a business owner and I object to what one of your users has written.  What can I do?
If the content is inappropriate (based on our Terms and guidelines), then click on the link called Report this Review on the review page to send us a note and explanation about the nature of the issue.  If you disagree with the opinion of the reviewer or if they have written something that is factually wrong, then you should register on the site and then send them a message or post a comment (if it is part of an excursion).  If they only accept messages from friends, send us a message using the Report this Review link, and we’ll make sure that we get your comments to them.  Remember, if you are posting to the site to disagree with an opinion, it is often best to tell the author how you are improving things rather than just disagreeing with them.

Other Questions

I’d like to have my business listed on Parentography.  What do I need to do?
Send us an email using the form on our Contact Us page with all of the relevant details (name, address, web site, phone and fax numbers, etc.) for your business and we’ll validate it.  If it all checks out, we’ll add your place to our database so that our users can start reviewing it!

One of your listings has inaccurate information.  How do I correct it?
If we have an old address or an incorrect phone number for a place, we need to know. We’re committed to keeping our database as current as we can, and we have to rely on our members to help us out. If you find an inaccuracy, you can send us a note using the form on our Contact Us page or use the link on the page where you found the business or place information to notify us of the change you think should be made. Once we’ve confirmed that the new information is correct, we will update our database.

I have a suggestion for improving Parentography. What should I do?
We’d love to hear from you.  Visit out Contact Us page and send us a message.

I found a bug on the site or I’m receiving an error that I don’t understand.  Who do I contact?
