Twice a year, a large empty lot in the inner Sunset district of San Francisco is transformed into a mini farm by Clancy's Christmas Trees and Pumpkins. This three generation family business has been selling Halloween goodies here since 1979. It's pumpkin time right now at Clancy's, so grab your costumed kiddies and wander down to the patch for some wholesome family fun.

Clancy's sells pumpkins and gourds of all shapes, sizes and colors displayed in rows decorated with hay bales and seasonal spooks like witches, scarecrows, ghosts, etc. Wide paths provide ample room for kids to roam (or run) and they're allowed to touch everything. Large and small bundles of colorful corn are on sale, too, and you can pop it when you're done using it as a decoration.

For still more fun, you'll find live bunnies, huge white turkeys and a hay bale fortress (tunnel) your kids can crawl through. This area is well stocked with tons of stuffed animals -- kids are welcome to play with them here or walk/run around the patch with their new little friends -- just remember to leave them in the patch when you go home. Hay rides are also available for a small fee.

Clancy's is open for Halloween business everyday, 9 a.m. -10 p.m., from Sept. 30 through Oct. 31. It's a great place for picture-taking and picnics (no tables, just hay). School groups are welcome, as are birthday parties (by reservation). There are two parking lots (one small, one large) and some street parking nearby. Wheelbarrows and wagons are available for collecting your loot.

Come Thanksgiving, Clancy's Christmas trees and wreaths start to arrive at this same lot. We'll be back!
