If your family is the type who likes to hit garage sales, antique shops and swap meets, The Market at Ventura College (held on Saturdays & Sundays from 10 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) is worth a gander.

Let me preface this with: there is a LOT of junk to wade through before you find treasures. That's my opinion, of course, and my junk may be someone else's find. However, you've been warned. :)

This is your typical swap meet with different "booths" set up for each vendor, and the range of goods is far and wide. You need used toys? New toys? Stickers? Kids' socks, shoes, clothes, tupperware toys, shampoo, soap, car parts, hot chiles...churros?! (Whenever we go, we *need* churros about halfway through. Your mileage may vary.) You'll be able to find a great selection of all of these, plus car stereo equipment, cds (new and used), beanie babies (new and used), bolts of fleece fabric, plants (mostly outdoor), actual antiques, collectible toys, furniture, tools, veggies & fruit (lots of unusual imports from Mexico) etc. Truly, there is something to please every single family member at this flea market. That is, if you're willing to haul it all home!

The market has recently added a more robust "food court" with tables and shade, so you and the fam can take a load off, and a respite from hunting down items and refresh yourselves.

Oh, and I can't forget to mention the pony rides. For $5 your junior or miss can enjoy riding around and around in circles on a small pony. What's not to love? Another fun activity is seeing how many tiny dogs in carriers (strollers included) you can spot. Great fun for your older kids!

Get there early to get the real bargains. And if you live close enough to go often, you'll get to know the vendors and be able to access items you might not have found on a single, random visit. There is enough parking, you just have to be patient.
